International Women's Day (IWD) is marked on March 8 every year. It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.
On International Women’s Day (March 8th) people will join together in Edinburgh to celebrate the resilience and fortitude of women all over the world. All are welcome to gather together in Princes Street Gardens at 12pm. The event will host a motivating ensemble of speakers, musicians, dancers, and poets, who will help celebrate International Women’s Day by rejoicing in the inspirational power of women. Shirley-Ann Somerville (MSP) will be speaking alongside other inspiring women, who have first hand understanding of the experiences of women in conflict zones.

Our regular SACC planning meeting falls on the day after International Women's Day. To mark the occasion we have asked two women from Palestine to join us. Amal Hijazi is a midwife and works as co-ordinator of the women's centre in Shu'fat Refugee camp, and I'temad Wahbeh is a mother of seven and on the committee of the centre. They will be talking about life under occupation.

April 3 will be a European Day of Action to ban nuclear weapons. Non-violent actions will take place at every European NATO nuclear weapons base in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Turkey, United Kingdom and Belgium. The Faslane event is being organised by Trident Ploughshares and Scottish Clergy Against Nuclear Arms (SCANA).
