Illina Sen and Kavita Srivastava are on a speaking tour of the UK to raise support for the campaign to free Binayak Sen. Monday's meetings in Edinburgh are their only meetings in Scotland.

DON'T MISS this rare opportunity to hear about state repression in India and show your support for a fearless campaigner.

Dr Binayak Sen has spent three decades serving poor communities in the Chhattisgarh state in central India. He was arrested in May 2007 on what Amnesty International calls "trumped up charges". Dr Sen's trial began on 30 May 2008 and is still continuing. He has twice been refused bail. The Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act, under which Dr Sen has been charged, has been widely criticised on human rights grounds.

The real reason for Dr Sen's imprisonment is his outspoken opposition to the violent repression of the poor and to the activities of the Salwa Judum, a state sponsored paramilitary terror group, which has massacred local people and forced thousands to flee. He was arrested after helping to expose police involvement in the killing of 12 tribal people in Bijapur on 31st March 2007.
The meeting is organised by Scottish Action for the release of Binayak Sen, supported by SACC, Amnesty International, Edinburgh Peace and Justice Centre, Academics and Scholars, Centre for South Asian Studies, Edinburgh University Amnesty International Society
