JOBS NOT BOMBS! Scotland´s Budget for Peace

BUDGET UPDATE
On Monday 20th April a group of workers took their own red boxes to Alastair Darlingś office round the corner from the Centre. They were presenting the budget alternatives to to squandering billions on useless and dangerous nuclear weapons to be based in Scotland.

The alternative budget was created by Scotland's For Peace. Their Budget for Peace Campaign attracted thousands of words in submissions from across civic Scotland.
The workers were joined by pensioner Sheila Skinner, and 18 year old Adam Holmes.Unfortunately Mr Darling paid no heed, and Scotland is set to lose nearly £500 million next year in the first spending cut since the Tory years, according to the First Minister today. Mr Salmond taunted Labour, during question time asking: "Hands up in the Labour Party - who wants to spend £100 billion on Trident while cutting public expenditure in Scotland?"
The Labour leader retorted: "Were we to cancel Trident, we would cut 11,000 jobs from the west of Scotland. Mr Grey can't have seen the STUC's excellent paper on how the Scottish economy and job market could grow without Trident (available from STUC, SCND or the Centre)
Sheila said:
“Ï am a pensioner, and when we started my husband and I had very little, but we never spent what we didn't have. I wanted to be there to explain things to our children, and that has affected my pension now. As for Trident, it is evil, and nothing but a waste when you think of all that's needed on the earth”. Adam added
“Replacing Trident would mean a nuclear future for Scotland until I am retirement age and Gordon Brown is dead. What a waste of money”.
