The Peace & Justice Centre organised this event as part of 'We need peace in Sudan' - see sudan365.org - on the 9th January. This is the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement for Sudan, which signaled the end of the civil war. Millions were killed. Millions were displaced. Millions suffered dire human rights abuses.
One year from now a referendum is due to be held to determine the future of Sudan. A worldwide drum beat started in Sudan and passed through many countries, to remind the world that they must help to ensure Peace in Darfur, women's rights and a free and fair referendum. The Scottish event was supported bt the Darfur Womens Training Committee and the newly formed Scottish branch of the Womens International League for Peace and Freedom.
The Centre has a fact sheet on Darfur, and Scottish WILPF meets here on second Monday at 6.00pm.
Look at sudan365.org for great videos of the worldwide drummers, some famous drummers with fantastic kits, some ordinary people with a shaker!
