30th Anniversary "Women for Life on Earth" Celebration

There will be celebrations held at the Greenham Peace Garden today to mark the 30th anniversary of the peaceful protests held at Greenham Common, Berkshire in 1981, in reaction to the NATO decision to place one hundred and ninety six US Cruise Missiles, in hardened silos, at this location.

These protests mark a time when non-violent power brought about lasting change, and the coordinators of the Peace Garden extend an open invitation for people to visit this special place.

Faslane Peace Camp Birthday Celebrations

Faslane Peace Camp is turning 29! Established 12 June 1982, members of the nuclear disarmament community will be celebrating the Camp's birthday with a long weekend of merriment and activities, including craft and activism workshops delivered by friends and residents of the Peace Camp.

The 26th April 2011 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. A fire in a reactor caused a plume of radioactive fallout which drifted over large parts of the Soviet Union, Europe and Scandina­via. Over 4,000 people died and 336,000 people had to be resettled.

Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on the third Monday of each January, around the time of Dr King's birthday on January 15th.

Since 1994 American citizens have been encouraged to use Martin Luther King Day as a day of action when they perform voluntary work which has a positive benefit for their community.
