Trident is the prime focus of our campaigning, as all British nuclear weapons are based here in Scotland, where the 4 Vanguard class nuclear-powered and nuclear-armed submarines operate out of Faslane on the Gareloch. Each of these submarines carry 48 Trident warheads (bombs) each of which is approximately 8 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) was set up in 1974 by a number of peace and other organisations who were concerned about the growth in the arms trade following the Middle East war of 1973. It is a broad coalition of groups and individuals in the UK working to end the international arms trade. This Trade has a negative effect on human rights and security as well as on global, regional and local economic development.
